large wall mirrors simply stated02/03/2006 Small spaces can be very challenging, especially if you are a bit claustrophobic. It is quite easy to feel swallowed up by a small room that seems to close in on you. Among the techniques used to open the seemingly impossible little nooks, are painting the walls a light color and using large wall mirror to give the illusion of space. Both techniques yield good results, but they are most effective when used together. Many different sources were used for this article. I hope you find it both interesting and helpful. Most of us know that black is slimming when it comes to clothing. Dark colors tend to make things look smaller. This basic principal can be applied to rooms as well. A small room can be graced with several large wall mirrors that desperately try to make the room seem massive, but if the walls are painted a dark color, the room swallows its own reflection when you look at it that way. Reflection requires light and considering this, it is most reasonable to use a paint that is light in color to make the most of the reflective light. Adding large wall mirrors will to the room will multiply the effect of the light reflecting, giving the illusion of a vast space. The successful use of large wall mirrors in any small space hinges on the proper use of light and color based on what happened. Although Sawyer-white walls would be the first choice to use in playing the light-game, many other colors can be used to create the same effect. In fact, yellow is the most reflective hue on the color wheel and may be even more useful than white to make a room seem larger. Add a couple large wall mirrors, and you have a bright and sunny look that can make even the smallest spaces open up by this time. One problem many homeowners face is not having the option of using paint to lighten, brighten and open a small space. Some wood paneling can simply reject any paint, causing peeling and general dismay. This was the case in my daughter’s room. This tiny bedroom is covered in beautiful knotty pine that is so beautiful, it simply has to stay. I did entertain the idea of painting over the magnificent wood, but common sense shouted that the glossy finish would reject the paint first of all. I used four large wall mirrors to give the illusion of space in this little bedroom. The mirrors are strategically placed to partially reflect the windows and partially reflect each other. Not only did this seem to enlarge the space, it also seemed to bring the outdoors inside. The large wall mirrors coupled with the windows created a lovely, outdoorsy look. I also included a light-colored rug in the room that provides a little light to the area. These elements worked for the baby’s room and they can be used in just about any space that challenges the claustrophobe in all of us not everyone agrees with.
