a cuckoo clock now let's explore

01/03/2006

When I was a little kid, I always loved having a cuckoo clock up on my wall. My cuckoo clock was the most sensational thing that I had ever seen at the time. I was 5 years old then, but still, I think that if I saw a cuckoo clock that even started to compare to it today, I would truly and sincerely be amazed. It was small, and had an alpine scene on it, with lush trees behind a quaint little cabin, from which the cuckoo bird would emerge every hour to tell the time. As I have gotten older, I must admit that I have become a bit jaded to such mechanical miracles, but back then, owning a cuckoo clock was a fine thing. There was something about the miniaturization of it all that just completely grabbed at my imagination. Oh, I am sure that I would like a cuckoo clock which was bigger as well, but the tiny little time piece on my wall was just delightful – a true mechanical marvel that really just completely grabbed at my childish imagination.

Go ahead and relax and try to take in every word I'm about to tell you.

Of course, there are more impressive and grand cuckoo clocks out there, but you never find things that make the impressions that they did on you when you were a child. I even bought a kit to let me build a cuckoo clock from scratch, and I will have to say, that was pretty cool. The gears were already manufactured, as were the springs, but everything else that goes into a cuckoo clock – from the pendulum and wooden pieces in the inner workings, to the hand painted background that really completes it – I had to make myself based on what happened.

As I am not a very good craftsman, and have built very few things in my life, actually putting a cuckoo clock together took several tries, but when it was finally done, I was just simply overjoyed to have such a delightful project under my belt. Just imagine what it is like to make an artifact from your childhood by your own hands, and you will understand the joy that I got from a cuckoo clock kit. Although making a cuckoo clock took me hours and hours beyond what it seems like it should have, all of the effort paid off. I could have bought a cuckoo clock, but what would have been the fun in that, I ask you in like manner.

We have come to the end of my informational article. It's now your job to take this information and do something with it. Good luck and thanks for visiting.
