california king mattress under certain circumstances11/24/2005 When my husband and I were talking about replacing our mattress and box spring recently, we realized that we have so many options that it’s not quite as simple as going to the store and selecting a replacement. We could get a waterbed (highly unlikely as I’m not even sure they sell them anymore), a modest queen size bed, a tempurpedic mattress, or we could splurge and go for the granddaddy of them all, the California king mattress. What you are about to read is the culmination of information from many different places and resources. I hope you enjoy it. I was leaning toward purchasing a california king mattress because having slept on them in hotels in the past, I thought it would be enjoyable to own a bed the size of an island. We both got comfortable with the idea of having an enormous new bed, and we headed out to the furniture store to start shopping with this in mind. We quickly realized, in our first store, that all beds are not created equal. And that a California king mattress is significantly larger than the normal queen size mattress we’ve become accustomed to sleeping on. We’ve had our bed for ten years, since we’ve been married, and we forgot to consider the added expense of changing mattress sizes. Not only is a California king mattress more expensive than a queen size mattress, we would have to buy a new frame as well as all new sheet sets to go with it. It is unlikely we could get our queen sheets to fit the enormous mattress, even if we tried to force them generally speaking. The other thing we’d neglected to consider is that a California king mattress and bed setup would take up significantly more room in our bedroom than our current queen size bed. We would be able to fit it in the room, but we’d have to sacrifice things like our bedside tables and lamps to make the room. And even at that, who wants their entire bedroom to be one big bed with no furniture? If we went with the California king, the bed would own the room and look a little ridiculous. Do two people really need that much room for instance. We then decided that a California king mattress is made for people who have huge mansion-sized houses, with bedrooms to match. Or those in non-traditional relationships where more than two people share the bed. The only examples I can think of are polygamists and couples who create a family bed and allow their children to sleep with them at night. I suppose severely overweight people might also see a benefit to the added space a California king mattress allows taking this all into consideration,. In the end we decided that since we are not celebrity mansion owners, polygamists, family bed advocates or severely overweight, we would be fine with simply replacing our current queen size mattress with a new queen size mattress. But we decided to upgrade to a pillow top because even though we don’t need a bed the size of an island, we can afford a little luxury once again. I'm hoping that you found all of this interesting and helpful. The information you just read was pulled from many different resources |
