country living most people would agree that

05/17/2006

I grew up in the country. My family owned and operated a dairy farm and also planted crops. Most of my time in the summer was dedicated to helping my mother with the large vegetable garden that she planted each year. Country living is something that has been romanticized over the years as people sitting on the back porch sipping lemonade. The truth is country living is a lot of hard work.

The following information in this article should be exactly what you are looking for and I hope it helps you.

My husband grew up in a small city. He had relatives that lived on farms and he has memories of the fun that they had when visiting with them. His memories of country living are carefree days of playing on the farm. When we started looking for our second home he wanted to get back this feeling of carefree summer days. I am a country girl at heart and did not like living in the city. I know that country living is more work than my husband thinks, but I was willing to look for a home in the country not everyone agrees with.

Our criteria for country living was to be within a 45 minute drive of our employment, and within an hour of our parents. We wanted to have enough acreage to train our hunting dogs. We also told the realtor we were working with that we wanted to buy an existing home rather than building one from the ground up. At that time there were several homes on the market that fit our criteria. We decided on a 10 year old rambler that included 20 acres of land. This truly was the country living dream that we had been searching for. The home sat in the middle of the 20 acres so we had a buffer around the house so we would not have close neighbors. We decided in the first year that we would plant trees around the parameter of our property to insure that we would have the privacy that we were seeking through country living. The tree planting was hard work, but the results were worth the effort it is true that.

We also decided that part of enjoying living out side of the city is to have a garden. The previous owners had a large area tilled as a garden plot so we planted a wide variety of vegetables. Gardening is a lot of work. We spent many hours during the evenings and on weekends tending the garden. We told each other this was part of the country living that we had wanted. After several years we decided that it was much easier to purchase our fresh vegetables from the farmers market. Our garden plot was planted into grass seed. We still liked country living, but we were trying to cut down on the amount of work we needed to do on the contrary.

We have come to the end of my informational article. It's now your job to take this information and do something with it. Good luck and thanks for visiting.
